Trim the blank margins so the content fills the sheet. Scans often carry a wide white border, and cropping it makes them far easier to read on a phone.
Auto-detect the margins, or set the four edges yourself.
Choose how it is applied (see below), then download.
This one needs an upload, and is deleted afterwards
Browsers cannot do this calculation, so the file goes to our server. It is deleted automatically 60 minutes after the job finishes, and the working copy lives in a memory filesystem that is wiped whenever the server restarts.
We do not log file names and do not log file contents — that is a hard rule in our engineering standards, not a setting.
What it does — and what it doesn't
The two modes are very different, and picking the wrong one matters.
"Change the visible area" is reversible: what is cropped away is still in the file, and the text is still extractable. In testing, 43 characters were recovered from a cropped region. Good for tidying layout.
"Rasterise" really destroys it: the cropped part is gone, at the cost of turning the page into an image — text layer lost, file larger.
Neither is the right tool for hiding personal data. Use Auto-redact or Redact — those remove the text from the content stream.
Common questions
I want to hide something at the edge of the page. Which mode?
Neither. Cropping is a layout tool. The reversible mode leaves the text extractable, and rasterising destroys the text layer of the whole page. Use the redaction tools.
Will auto-detect clip my text?
It finds the content boundary and leaves a margin, so normally no. Faint scanner speckle near the edge can be read as content and make it crop less.
The margins differ from page to page.
Auto mode judges each page separately, so uneven scans are fine.
