This one needs an upload, and is deleted afterwards
Browsers cannot do this calculation, so the file goes to our server. It is deleted automatically 60 minutes after the job finishes, and the working copy lives in a memory filesystem that is wiped whenever the server restarts.
We do not log file names and do not log file contents — that is a hard rule in our engineering standards, not a setting.
What it does — and what it doesn't
Fonts depend on whether they are embedded in the file. An unusual font that the server does not have is substituted with a close match, which can shift line breaks by a character or two. Skim anything important.
Excel keeps its own page-break settings — set the print area in Excel first if you want one sheet per page.
Macros, external links and auto-updating fields do not run. You get the document as it stood when the file was saved.
PowerPoint animations and transitions are flattened into static pages.
Common questions
Why does it look slightly different from my computer?
Usually fonts. Embed the fonts when you save from Word ("Embed fonts in the file") and the difference goes away.
Can I convert several at once?
Yes — drop them all in together.
Can the PDF be edited afterwards?
You can annotate, stamp and paginate it. To change the words, editing the original Word file is far quicker — see Edit existing text for why.
