Give a long document an outline, so the reader's sidebar shows a clickable table of contents. You can also read out the existing bookmarks and edit them.
Submit empty to read the existing bookmarks; or type your own, using indentation for levels.
Send the whole set back and download.
This one needs an upload, and is deleted afterwards
Browsers cannot do this calculation, so the file goes to our server. It is deleted automatically 60 minutes after the job finishes, and the working copy lives in a memory filesystem that is wiped whenever the server restarts.
We do not log file names and do not log file contents — that is a hard rule in our engineering standards, not a setting.
What it does — and what it doesn't
Indentation is the level. No indent means the same level; one indent makes it a child.
Bookmarks point at page numbers. If you later reorder or delete pages, they will point at the wrong places and need rebuilding.
Merging documents does not preserve their bookmarks — rebuild after merging.
A few readers hide the outline panel by default; it has to be opened.
Common questions
Can it generate the contents from the headings?
No. A PDF does not record "this line is a heading", only type sizes — guessing from size goes wrong in ugly ways. Listing them is quicker and more accurate.
How do I edit existing bookmarks?
Submit empty; the current set is read out, and you send the edited set back.
